Mikhail S. Vorontsov

Biggest wooden Sailing Yacht

Balk Shipyard is outfitting the schooner in collaboration with the Turkish yard Dream Ship Victory. The 53-metre bare hull had already been built in laminated wood in Turkey by Dream Ship Victory, and has now been transported to the Netherlands. The three-masted classic staysail rigged yacht is due to be launched in the Spring of 2013 and is Balk Shipyard’s largest new build project to date.

Created for luxurious and comfortable sailing with unrestricted navigation, the concept design of the yacht is by Valeriy G. Stepanenko. Gerard Dykstra & Partners are responsible for the naval architecture with Ken Freivokh taking care of the interior design. Balk Shipyard has been commissioned to ensure Mikhail S. Vorontsov is completed to the highest Dutch standards of superyacht construction and be fully RINA classified.

Also built entirely of laminated wood, the yacht’s unique superstructure will generate an extraordinary atmosphere. The primary helm position will be on the aft deck in the owner’s area, with a second navigation and communication centre located in the forward deckhouse for when privacy is required. Mikhail S. Vorontsov will be fi tted with aluminium spars and carbon booms. All eight sails are roller furled will be operated via a hydraulic semi-automatic system that allows for easy handling of the 1478 m² sail area.

On May 3 2014, s.y. Mikhail S. Vorontsov has been awarded with the prestigious World Superyacht Award.
