Amazone

The 21.95-metre Amazone is a beauty in every respect. One of the brave survivors of the dramatic Dunkirk rescue operation in 1940, she is enjoying a renaissance in the hands of her current Italian owner. Everyone at Balk enjoys working for this dedicated owner, who recognises the value of investing regular time and money on his boat.

Our role with Amazone is to maintain her bona fide style: Everything must look and feel ‘old’ and not be obviously renewed. For example, the dashboard has been fully overhauled and brought back to her original condition, removing all the clocks, dials and other features that no longer belonged to the ‘back-to-basics’ boat that was originally launched in 1939. We have even treated the dashboard wood with lamps in order to ensure an authentic tone that matches the rest of the bridge.

And there is much more. We have stripped, cleaned and varnished Amazone’s decks, superstructure, cap rails and hatches. The wheelhouse roof has been removed, on which all sorts of radars and antennas have been placed over the years. We have stripped the wood down, treated it with epoxy and repainted her in the traditional style.

On the technical side a new bowthruster has been installed along with all-new hydraulics. The masts have also been taken out and re-varnished, and a new classic tender has been added.
