Putty V I

The refit of the 46-metre Putty VI, completed in July 2007, is one of the most radical projects of recent years. Launched as Turmoil in 1995, this all-aluminium displacement Research Vessel Yacht was originally constructed to a Vripack design at Palmer Johnson in the United States. She covered many thousands of miles around the globe, including twice through the North-West Passage above Canada.
In late 2006, her new owner asked us to convert Turmoil into a luxury cruising yacht of the highest possible standard and renamed her Putty VI. This astonishing transformation included turning a practical and workmanlike helicopter deck with ordinary railings into a lovely sun deck with stunning cap rails, a Jacuzzi, a wealth of furniture, and a bar and grill.

This is a very visible result of the refit – there are also many other aspects of the work that are now hidden from view but no less important. In fact, the greatest challenge for Balk as a yard was to simultaneously re-engineer so many systems and bring everything together as a whole. All this had to be carried out within the shortest conceivable timetable of just six months.

The results of our efforts will be appreciated by those who sail onboard Putty VI for many years, and yet very few will know what was involved. This is of course the very essence of a successful superyacht from an engineering perspective.

Both the owners and Vripack Naval Architects were very pleased with the outcome.
